“I felt the air in the music, the space and serenity. The sound filled the space with love, softness, pleasantness and elegance. Like a wind blowing from room to room. To me, it felt like a sort of miracle - a delicate, non-aggressive groove, restrained and patient, and at the same time so powerful, clubby, tribal and the most narcotic I could ever imagine. In my fantasy world, you could call it the Holy Grail.”
“I like how you organised your channel. You have implemented very clever gamification. And the music is top notch.”
-- Blaz
“Best thing that happened on the internet in the past 10 years!”
-- Lisa
“Some dope bangers here, I start listening 5 hours ago and still listening. Big up for this great project! The bombs are planted so great!”
-- Escobi
Rominimal is a strain of minimal techno that grew out of Bucharest’s underground club scene in the mid-2000s. The name is shorthand for Romanian minimal — a sound built on stripped-back percussion, organic warmth, and hypnotic grooves that unfold across hours rather than minutes. Where Berlin minimal runs cold and precise, rominimal runs warm. It swings. It breathes. It treats the dancefloor as a shared meditation rather than a spectacle.
Three names crystallised the sound: Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, and Raresh — collectively RPR Soundsystem. They filtered the economy of European minimal techno through something distinctly Romanian: a rhythmic intelligence that feels inherited rather than learned, a comfort with space that most producers can’t fake, and a philosophical commitment to the groove over everything else. No drops. No builds toward release. Just the floor, the sound, and time dissolving.
Spots like Club Guesthouse in Bucharest became the crucible — rooms where DJs played four, six, eight hours and the music built worlds slowly. Then came Sunwaves festival on Romania’s Black Sea coast. Sunwaves became the pilgrimage site, the place where the rest of the world came to hear rominimal in its natural habitat. Word spread the way it does in underground music: DJ to DJ, ID to ID, one conversation at a time.
The second wave arrived without fracturing anything. Priku — Adrian Niculae, Bucharest-born, founder of Atipic and Motif — became one of the most important working artists in the scene. Barac, Arapu, Sublee, Traumer (French by birth, rominimal by sensibility) — each brings something specific while keeping the essential philosophy intact. The palette keeps expanding. The floor keeps moving.
For a full breakdown of the sound, the history, and what separates rominimal from its parent genre, start with what is rominimal. For the artists and producers who’ve shaped it, the rominimal artist directory goes deep. For the broader minimal techno context it grew from, there’s what is minimal techno.
This is the only dedicated 24/7 radio and track discovery platform built for rominimal. The mix runs continuously — beat-matched, blended, alive — drawing from a catalogue of tracks gathered across the scene. No pre-recorded sets. No silence between tracks. Rate what moves you, build a record of what you’ve heard, export your discoveries for the crate.
Hit play. The mix is already running.
